Decorative finishing for interiors with “antique patina effect”

R-stone is a decorative finish with stone and ancient patina effect, available as Rosso, Verde, Blu, Perla, Metal Silver and Metal Gold. It is formulated with selected metallic pigments, unsaponifiable resins and rheological modifiers to guarantee an excellent workability.

R-stone veils the original color of the substrate, creating a pleasant chromatic effect.

Application:

  1. The surface must be clean and dry, cohesive and compact and have no dust and mineral salt spots.
  2. If necessary, restore or consolidate using specific products.
  3. Treat the surface with appropriate products in the presence of mould.
  4. Remove any salt bloom and any flaking old paint by brushing or washing. Completely eliminate any raised layers of paint.
  5. Remove dust, smog and other deposits by brushing.
  6. The cracks must be suitably widened and filled with plaster or similar products.
  7. Level out any substrate irregularities. Holes, cracks, crevices and dents can be treated with appropriate levelling agents, depending on the type of substrate.
  8. Make sure that the substrate is completely dry and apply a layer of Acricolor (water-based acrylic pigmented primer) diluted, or alternatively, apply a layer of diluted Decofix (micronized wall primer) and wait for the primer to dry.
  9. For a slightly textured finish, apply a first layer of R-stone Fondo and smooth.
  10. After at least 8 hours apply a second layer of R-stone Fondo, working the surface depending on the aesthetic effect desired.
  11. Apply a layer of R-stone onto a dry surface, removing any excess material.
  12. Pass over the surface again immediately to eliminate any imperfections or excessive deposits of material.
  13. Wait for the substrate to dry completely and apply a second layer of R-stone, removing any excess material.
  14. Work the surface that is still damp depending on the effect desired.
  15. Drying time: approx. 24 hours depending on the type of substrate, its absorption and on the environmental conditions.

  4. Remove any salt bloom and any flaking old paint by brushing or washing. Completely eliminate any raised layers of paint.
  5. Remove dust, smog and other deposits by brushing.
  6. Remove the cement structural parts that are poorly adherent.
  7. The reinforcement metal round bars that are visible on the surface must be brushed thoroughly and treated with passivating grout.
  8. Restore the missing parts with suitable anti-contraction, thixotropic, fibre-reinforced mortar.
  9. Perform final smoothing with anti-contraction, anti-carbonation levelling agent.
  10. Make sure that the substrate is thoroughly dry and apply a layer of diluted Decofix (micronized wall primer) and wait for the primer to dry.
  11. To produce a slightly textured finish, apply a first layer of R-stone Fondo and smooth.
  12. After 4 hours apply a second layer of R-stone Fondo, working the surface depending on the aesthetic effect desired.
  13. After 8 hours, apply a layer of R-stone onto a dry surface, removing any excess material.
  14. Pass over the surface again immediately to eliminate any imperfections or excessive deposits of material.
  15. Wait for the substrate to dry completely, approx. 4 hours, and apply a second layer of R-stone, removing any excess material.
  16. Work the surface that is still damp depending on the effect desired.
  17. Drying time: approx. 24 hours depending on the type of substrate, its absorption and on the environmental conditions.

To limit excessive mechanical stress caused by overheating of the surface due to solar irradiation, it is advised to use shades of colour with reflectance index (Y) over 20. The selection of shades present in the colour chart is suitable for application on ETICS systems.

New surfaces:

  1. Make sure that the substrate has a curing time that meets the manufacturer’s specifications.
  2. Make sure that the substrate is completely dry and apply a layer of Acricolor (water-based acrylic pigmented primer) diluted, or, alternatively, apply a layer of diluted Decofix (micronized wall primer) and wait until it is dry.
  3. Use a stainless steel spatula to spread a layer of plaster specific for ETICS, working the surface depending on the aesthetic effect desired.
  4. After 8 hours, apply a layer of R-stone onto a dry surface, removing any excess material.
  5. Pass again immediately to eliminate any imperfections or excessive deposits of material.
  6. Wait for the substrate to dry completely, approx. 4 hours, and apply a second layer of R-stone, removing any excess material.
  7. Work the surface that is still damp depending on the effect desired.
  8. Drying time: approx. 24 hours depending on the type of substrate, its absorption and on the environmental conditions.

Renewal of existing surfaces:

  1. Before covering an ETICS surface, it is good practice to check:
    • The adhesion of the insulating panels to the substrate.
    • The presence of inconsistent parts which are coming away or damaged; these must be removed.
    • The surface is smooth and not crumbling.
    • There are no cracks on the surface between the various insulating panels.
    • There is no algae or mold present, proceed with sanitization using specific products, if necessary.
    • The surface is dry and free from condensate.
  2. Apply a layer of diluted Decofix (micronized wall primer).
  3. Proceed with reinforced levelling using cement-based adhesive suitable for external insulation finishing system:

A smoothing agent is recommended with:

    • maximum dimension of the aggregates: 0.75 mm
    • adhesion to concrete/brickwork: > 0.25 MPa
  4. Embed an alkali-resistant plaster mesh, weighing approx. 150 gr/m2 between the two levelled layers and wait for curing; see the manufacturer’s technical data sheet.
  5. Proceed with the application of a first smooth layer of R-stone Fondo.
  6. After 4 hours apply a second layer of R-stone Fondo, working the surface depending on the aesthetic effect desired.
  7. Eliminate any accumulations of material to obtain a compact surface.
  8. After 8 hours, apply a layer of R-stone onto a dry surface, removing any excess material.
  9. Pass over the surface again immediately to eliminate any imperfections or excessive deposits of material.
  10. Wait for the substrate to dry completely, approx. 4 hours, and apply a second layer of R-stone, removing any excess material.
  11. Work the surface that is still damp depending on the effect desired.
  12. Drying time: approx. 24 hours depending on the type of substrate, its absorption and on the environmental conditions.

May also be applied over:

  • New and old base hydraulic binder-based plaster.
  • Concrete surfaces.
  • Old paints and organic or mineral coatings, dry, compact, absorbent and cohesive.
  • Various absorbent mineral conglomerates.
  • ETICS surfaces (external thermal insulating composite systems)

Approximate coverage yields 8-10 m2/l in the two layers, according to the finish of the substrate and its absorption. It is good practice to carry out a practical test on the substrate to calculate real consumption.
