Decorative coating for exterior with metallic effects

Eclat_Wall Painting is a decorative finish for exteriors with metallic effect. The light reflected from the surface influences the final aesthetic effect. It will be distinguished by tiny spots of light able to create a 3D effect of brightness.

Eclat_Wall Painting creates a protective coating with excellent water repellence and good permeability that gives the finishing excellent breathability and good resistance to rain.

Eclat_Wall Painting is suitable for the application in harsh environmental conditions and climates characterized by strong seasonal temperature changes.

Thanks to its particular formulation and the presence of anti-mould additives, it preserves treated surfaces from moulds, algae and moss even in the case of application on thermal insulation system.

Eclat_Wall Painting requires the use of a tinted base coat according to the desired effect and aesthetic look.

In the presence of ETICS surfaces (thermal “external coating”), the use of Intosil Medio is recommended.

For further information, consult the technical service.

Application:

  1. The substrate must be perfectly dry, dust-free, with no humidity and salt stains.
  2. Resurface or consolidate the surface with specific products if necessary.
  3. In case of mould, treat the surface with suitable specific products.
  4. Brush or remove any efflorescence and old peeling paint.
  5. Higher layers of old lime-based paint and tempera paint must be removed.
  6. Brush out dust, smog or other deposits before the application.
  7. Cracks must be properly enlarged and filled with fillers or similar products. Level substrates irregularities. Holes and cracks can be treated by proper levelling products according to the type of substrate.
  8. Make sure that the substrate is perfectly dry and apply, with a brush a layer of diluted Acricolor (acrylic water based sealer) or alternatively apply with a brush a layer of diluted Decofix (micronized wall sealer).
  9. For strongly textured finishes it is possible to apply with a stainless steel trowel two layers of Intosil Fine or Concrete by Novacolor, working the surface according to the desired effect.
  10. Over a dry surface, apply with sponge trowel one coat of Eclat_Wall Painting.
  11. Work into the surface still fresh in order to avoid marks and removing exceeding materials.
  12. Drying time: 24 hours depending on the type of support and/or its absorption rates and environmental conditions
  1. The surface must be clean and dry, cohesive and compact and have no dust and mineral salt spots. If necessary, restore or consolidate using specific products.
  2. Treat the surface with appropriate products in the presence of mould.
  3. Remove any salt bloom and any flaking old paint by brushing or washing. Completely delete any raised layers of paint. Remove the dust deposits, smog and other by brushing.
  4. Remove the cement structural parts that are poorly adherent.
  5. The reinforcement metal round bars that are visible on the surface must be brushed thoroughly and treated with passivating grout.
  6. Restore the missing parts with suitable anti-contraction, thixotropic, fibre-reinforced mortar.
  7. Perform final smoothing with anti-contraction anti-carbonation levelling agent.
  8. Make sure that the substrate is thoroughly dry and apply a layer of diluted Decofix (micronized wall primer).
  9. For strongly textured finishes it is possible to apply with a stainless steel trowel two layers of Intosil Fine or Concrete by Novacolor, working the surface according to the desired effect.
  10. On dry surface, apply one or two layers of Eclat_Wall Painting with sponge trowel.
  11. Work the surface before the complete drying to delete exceeding material.
  12. Drying time: approx. 24 hours depending on the type of substrate, its absorption and on environmental conditions.

To limit excessive mechanical stress caused by overheating of the surface due to solar irradiation, it is advisable to use shades of colour with reflectance index (Y) over 20.

The selection of shades present in the colour chart is suitable for application on ETICS systems.

New surfaces:

  1. Make sure that the substrate has a curing time that meets the manufacturer’s specifications.
  2. Make sure that the substrate is completely dry and apply a layer of Acricolor (water-based acrylic pigmented primer) diluted, or, alternatively, apply a layer of diluted Decofix (micronized wall primer) and wait for it to dry.
  3. With a stainless steel trowel apply one layer of Intosil Medio, working the surface till achieving the desired aesthetic effect.
  4. After 8 hours, apply a layer of Eclat_Wall Painting with sponge trowel.
  5. Drying time: approx. 24 hours depending on the type of substrate, its absorption and on environmental conditions.

Renewal of existing surfaces:

  1. Before covering an ETICS surface, it is good practice to check:
    • The adhesion of the insulating panels to the substrate.
    • The presence of any inconsistent parts which are coming off or damaged; these must be removed.
    • That the surface is smooth and not crumbling.
    • There are no cracks on the surface between the various insulating panels.
    • There are no algae or mould present, then proceed with sanitization using specific products, if necessary.
    • The surface is dry and free from condensate.
  2. Apply a layer of diluted Decofix (micronized wall primer).
  3. Proceed with reinforced levelling using cement-based adhesive suitable for external insulation finishing system:

A smoothing agent is recommended with:

    • maximum dimension of the aggregates: 0.75 mm
    • adhesion to concrete/brickwork: > 0.25 MPa
  4. Embed an alkali-resistant plaster mesh, with weight of approx. 150 gr/m2 between the two levelled layers and wait for curing; see the manufacturer’s technical data sheet.
  5. Apply with a brush a layer of diluted Decofix (micronized wall primer).
  6. With a stainless steel trowel apply one layer of Intosil Medio, working the surface till achieving the desired aesthetic effect.
  7. After 8 hours, apply one or two layers of Eclat_Wall Painting with a stainless steel trowel.
  8. Drying time: approx. 24 hours depending on the type of substrate, its absorption and on environmental conditions.

May also be applied over:

  • New and pre-existing lime plasters
  • Concrete surfaces
  • Various absorbent mineral conglomerates.
  • Pre-existing and new, dry, compact absorbent mineral or organic coatings
  • ETICS surfaces(external thermal insulation composite systems)

Not suitable for dehumidifying.

Approximate coverage yields 8-10 m2/l, each layer, according to the substrate and its absorption rate. It is advisable to determine the real yield with a preliminary test on the specific substrate.
