Mineral powder wall coating for interiors, mixed with natural components.

Materia Viva is a powdered mineral wall coating for interior use, based on hydraulic lime, air lime, carefully selected aggregates and rheological modifiers to ensure excellent workability.

Materia Viva is designed to be mixed with natural components – Materia Viva “Deco Powders” to create decorative finishes inspired by living organisms and our planet’s soil, echoing themes of sustainability

Application:

  1. The surface must be completely smooth, dry and free of dust, and of humidity-salt stains.
  2. Remove any traces of release agent.
  3. Remove the degraded or detaching parts and dirt residues mechanically with hand tools or high-pressure hydro washing. Protect the exposed reinforcement rods and fill hollows with appropriate non-shrinking mortars. Before application, wait for the backgrounds to dry fully.
  4. Once the background is dry and compact, use a brush to apply one diluted coat of Decofix (micronized wall fixative).
  5. For even non-flaking backgrounds, as an alternative, use a brush to apply a coat of diluted Novaprimer (water-based pigmented acrylic fixative).
  6. To prepare the background, we recommend applying one or two coats of Archi+ Fondo (mineral primer plaster). Due to its grain size and absorption, Archi+ Fondo helps to deposit the correct amount of Materia Viva, give control over the thickness applied, and makes the drying of Materia Viva uniform and homogeneous.
  7. Wait until the background is completely dry. Then use a stainless-steel trowel to apply a layer of Materia Viva mixed with Materia Viva “Deco Powders”. Work on the surface while it is still wet, depending on the desired aesthetic effect.
  8. For aesthetic or site requirements, an additional layer of Materia Viva can be applied.
  9. To enhance the appearance of Materia Viva we recommend sanding the surface dry using a random orbital sander with abrasive grit of 80-100.

May also be applied over:

  • New and old hydraulic binder-based plasters.
  • Gypsum and plasterboard surfaces
  • Old paints and organic or mineral coatings that are dry, compact, absorbent and not damaged.
  • Various mineral conglomerates, as long as they are absorbent.

Approximate coverage yields 2-4 kg/m2.

Yield may vary depending on the type of background, its absorption and application method. We recommend checking actual yield by making a preliminary test on the specific background. The yield per layer refers to the mixture of Materia Viva + Materia Viva Deco powders + water.

MATERIA VIVA is a container of 4 different effects that represent different facets of nature: the unique powder base, mixed with the COCCIOPESTO, CONCHIGLIA, POMICE and SUGHERO aggregates, brings to life recycled raw materials, in line with circular economy processes.

Materia viva cocciopesto

Italian architecture has made extensive use of Cocciopesto as mortar, plaster, or finishing layer. Materia Viva Cocciopesto is composed of crushed bricks and tiles with selected granulometries mixed into the Materia Viva base, a mineral powder coating for interiors based on hydraulic lime, aerial lime, and selected aggregates. Materia Viva Cocciopesto is a modern interpretation of the classic cocciopesto plaster, present in historical construction and in the architecture of various Italian cities.

Materia Viva Conchiglia

Materia Viva Conchiglia is a mixture of crushed and selected shells in different granulometries mixed into the Materia Viva base, a mineral powder coating for interiors based on hydraulic lime, aerial lime, and selected aggregates. Materia Viva Conchiglia Decopowder consists of small fragments of shells/pearls, set into the smooth and planar surface of a mineral plaster. Materia Viva Conchiglia is characterized by a structured surface, with bright and mother-of-pearl inserts.

Materia Viva Pomice

The volcanic origin of Materia Viva Pomice, combined with its “pozzolanic” properties (it reacts with lime to create a hydraulic binder), evokes the mortars and finishes of our architectural heritage. Materia Viva Pomice is made up of alveolar magmatic minerals, selected in different granulometries mixed into the Materia Viva base, a mineral powder coating for interiors based on hydraulic lime, aerial lime, and selected aggregates. Materia Viva Pomice is a mineral surface enriched and decorated with colored fragments of polished stone.

Materia Viva Sughero

Materia Viva Sughero is a granulate of expanded and toasted natural cork mixed into the Materia Viva base, a mineral powder coating for interiors based on hydraulic lime, aerial lime, and selected aggregates. The surface decorated with Materia Viva mixed with Materia Viva Pomice has a compact appearance, soft to the touch, reminiscent of natural fiber textiles.
